Tue, April 29, 2008 The Takeaway
The Takeaway is a great example of a public radio show being much more than a public radio show. John Hockenberry and Adaora Udoji broadcast live for an hour in the morning. But their broadcast is only a part of an experience that truly is centered around their website. The show itself has a lot going for it. Udoji and Hockenberry have a good rapport and great credentials. And they draw from the worldwide network of the BBC and the New York Times.

It's tough to wake up to The Takeaway Show. It's fast-paced, sound-effected and has a lot of references to "check out our website", or so&so's blog, neither of which I have ready access to from my bed.
Morning Edition gives an overview of the news enhanced with in-depth coverage, analysis and commentary. This, in my opinion, is the best format for early morning programming.
I think The Takeaway Show would do better in a later time slot.
Have you considered carrying The Takeaway on XMPR 133? You might be able to run it from 6 - 7 AM; although I'm not sure where you could place the Marketplace Morning Report in that case.
Personally, I'm podcasting The Takeaway.
