Dan Gediman, Martha Graham and This I Believe

Each week Bob is joined by Dan Gediman, the Executive Director of  This I Believe, Inc. to discuss one of the original essays from the 1950s radio series. This week’s featured essay is by Martha Graham.  In seven decades as a dancer and choreographer, she created 181 ballets. A founder of modern dance, Graham is known for her collaborations with other leading artists, including composer Aaron Copland. Her dance company also trained legends in the field such as Alvin Ailey and Twyla Tharp.  Martha Graham believed that dancing—like living—may look easy, but actually requires years of constant practice to achieve a sense of one’s own being and a satisfaction of spirit. Click here to read a transcript and to hear the audio of her “This I Believe” essay.
