I can identify with John Tierney’s confession of chronic procrastination — note that this blog entry is at least two hours late. Tierney is a science columnist for the New York Times and the co-author of a new book titled Willpower: Rediscovering the Greatest Human Strength. He wrote the book with noted social psychologist Roy Baumeister who has embraced the Victorian notion of willpower. They write that willpower is an internal energy that can be depleted as the day drags on, replenished with food or glucose, exercised and strengthened.

And here’s a link to an earlier book mentioned by Tierney. He says doing the research for his satrical self-help/get-rich-quick book God is My Broker with Christopher Buckley helped inspire Willpower.
