As the film’s production notes say, “Beasts of the Southern Wild is a spellbinding adventure set just past the known edge of the American Bayou. (The movie) follows a girl named Hushpuppy as she takes on rising waters, a sinking village, changing times, an army of prehistoric creatures and an unraveling universe that she bravely tries to stitch back together through the sheer force of spirit and resilience.” The film was shot on location in coastal Louisiana and stars two first-time actors. Quvenzhané Wallis is the young girl and New Orleans baker Dwight Henry plays her ailing father. First time director Benh Zeitlin joins his two actors to discuss the movie with Bob. Beasts of the Southern Wild is building Oscar buzz already, having won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival as well as three top awards at Cannes. The movie opens in a few major cities this weekend, then rolls out a bit wider in the coming weeks. Click here to find a showing near you.
