‘Uncounted: The New Math of American Elections’ is a powerful documentary by filmmaker David Earnhardt. It exposes many of the ways that American votes are mishandled, manipulated or just plain erased. Earnhardt says that audiences who view ‘Uncounted’ get angry and want to take action, and the film gives them plenty of suggestions of how everyday citizens can stand up and work for fair elections.
As Americans are inundated with election coverage, its important to remember that the end result of all the campaigning is the vote, and as ‘Uncounted’ reveals, our votes are far from secure. An informed and energized public can go a long way to improving the accountability of American elections, and ‘Uncounted’ shows us how, as citizens, we can do our part.

I am deeply grateful for this broadcast about unfair elections. This ongoing tragedy in our country should be on the cover of every major newspaper and the top story on every radio and television news broadcast until we can be sure it will never happen again. Perhaps we should dress it in a blonde wig and give it a drug addiction! THAT would be sure to place the topic at least once a day on each of the cable news shows.
In times of despair, Sam Smith reminds us that in order to secure our own freedom, it is in our best interest to continue to fight also for the freedom of those around us…regardless of whether they realize how disenfranchised they are. We should remember this when the uninformed call us conspiracy theorists; or "flaming progressive"(s) as David Earnhardt put it; a clear sign that the neo-cons have not only stolen our elections but stolen the language of truth as well.
I am truly amazed that this is going on.
I wonder if the same type of story could be written about the media coverage of any national race.
Why are the Dennis Kucinich, Ron Paul, Mike Gravel’s out there getting scant coverage when their ideas and positions usually have the voting record to back up the campaign promise.
Instead of only using the polls, should we not develop something more complex like a rating system that looks at the integrity of their voting record, fundraising, polls (not the skewed ones), and past work outside of office (charities, business, etc)?

My own comment is THANK YOU, Bob! After flying myself out to the ’04 Ohio recount, to volunteer as an elections monitor, I was struck by the invisibility of shenanigans that ended in stacks of blank ballots, as well as those recording no vote for president, not to mention disregarded "provisional ballots" an invention of that election), I was amazed. I was also told, by a member of the African American community there, from whom I’d rented my a car to get to various counties, about the voting machines that were never delivered.
The more all this gets out widely, the sooner people will demand accurate voting. I have been very proud of Washington’s Bev Harris and her efforts on vote integrity (blackboxvoting.com); another such site is velvetrevolution.com, started by a colleague of Ms. Harris, Andy Stephenson. These people did groundbreaking work.
This was an amazing and important show. I’m desperately looking for a way to share it with friends and family. They think I’m listening to crazy conspiracy theorists. I can’t find the broadcast anywhere on this site, audible.com or i-Tunes?
