Dan Gediman, Oscar Hammerstein and This I Believe

Each week Bob is joined by Dan Gediman, the Executive Director of  This I Believe, Inc. to discuss one of the original essays from the 1950s radio series. This week’s
featured essay is by Oscar Hammerstein II. He wrote the book and lyrics for many operettas and musical comedies. He wrote Show Boat with composer Jerome Kern. Later, with composer Richard Rodgers, Hammerstein wrote some of his greatest musicals, including Oklahoma!, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music. Hammerstein believed himself to be a happy man despite the personal disappointments and global conflicts he witnessed. Inspired by nature, Hammerstein says his happiness came from embracing his own imperfections. Click here to read a transcript and to hear the audio of his “This I Believe” essay.
