Mark Twain: Words & Music

Cindy Lovell is a self-described “Twain-iac” and the Executive Director of The Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum in Hannibal, Missouri. (Click here to read about the various properties maintained by the museum.) She is also the executive producer for a new double CD called Mark Twain: Words & Music. It features readings by Jimmy Buffett as Huck Finn, Clint Eastwood as Mark Twain and Garrison Keillor as the narrator. Then there’s the music, a mix of existing songs with new meanings and originals written just for this project. The artists featured include Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Brad Paisley and Ricky Skaggs. The CD is a fundraiser for the non-profit Twain museum so order yours now.

  1. Excellent interview. Cindy was in here to Jeffeerson City, MO probably in 2010. She mentioned her special project to an audience at our local library. She also mentioned the awesome group of contributing artists at that time. It is nice to hear that her dream Mark Twain in words and song story is now reality.

  2. Wow, great interview! Very much enjoyed it. Excellent review of this marvelous CD- and interesting tidbits about its creation I didn't know. It's true, each listen pulls you in as if it were the first time…and trust me, I have listened over and over again! Thanks, Bob, for featuring this CD and hosting Cindy Lovell…really, really nice interview.

  3. It was great to hear about this insanely creative project. I commend Dr. Lovell on her talent and the extraordinary abilities of Mr. Carl Jackson. I bought the CD weeks ago and I can't choose a favorite song. Run Mississippi is epic. Just typing those words makes me want to dance. Great work and great interview. As always, I love everything you do Mr. Edwards!
